Prepare for a momentous month as St. Petersburg ushers in the third annual "City of Writers Poetry Festival" this April, aligning with National Poetry Month. The highly-anticipated event, coordinated by the city's Poet Laureate Gloria Muñoz and a coalition of local partners, promises an impressive roster of activities. Participants can anticipate interactive discussions with lauded poets, workshops to hone their writing skills, and entrancing poetry performances sprinkled throughout the city.
St. Petersburg's commitment to its literary community shines through in its partnerships, which include respected institutions like Eckerd College and St. Pete Youth Farm, cultural hubs such as the Dali Museum, local favorites like Black Crow Coffee and Tombolo Books, and the scenic St. Pete Pier. Gloria Muñoz expressed her enthusiasm for the festival, stating, "We encourage everyone to get involved and be inspired," according to the official City of St. Petersburg news release.
The City of Writers Poetry Festival doesn't just focus on recitals and readings; the organizers are crafting experiences that blend poetry with other facets of community life. From a peaceful "Community Poetry's Sound Bath" with Denzel Johnson-Green set for April 6, to a blend of art and verse at the "Dalí Poetry Series" event featuring Natalie Diaz on April 10, the festival weaves words into the fabric of St. Petersburg.
Adding to the variety, the Festival slates in a unique "Wellness Monday Poetry Workshop" at the St. Pete Youth Farm, led by the envisioned poet Silk Jazmyne on April 21, and closes with a blended event of environmental activism and poetry. "This Is the Year: Beach Clean Up and Poetry" with Take Mar alongside Gloria Muñoz happens on April 26, marrying stewardship of natural wonders with the evocative power of prose.
