A Stockton man has received a two-year prison sentence for illegally possessing a firearm, officials announced Tuesday. Sean Arthur Robinson, aged 38, was handed down the sentence by Senior United States District Judge John A. Mendez, as part of his conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. This case follows on the heels of a concerted effort by law enforcement to curb gun violence and reduce crime in the community.
According to documents released by the U.S. Attorney’s office, Robinson was found with a Glock 27 semiautomatic firearm and a loaded high-capacity magazine during a search warrant executed at his residence in Stockton in September 2022. Additionally, on the same day, in a separate residence associated with Robinson in Fairfield, officers also seized two Glock switches – devices that can convert semiautomatic firearms into machine guns. The investigation into Robinson began in May 2021, after he was involved in a brazen shootout at the Grand Hyatt Hotel near the San Francisco International Airport.
Robinson's prior convictions, which include elder abuse and carrying a loaded firearm in public, prohibit him from owning or possessing any firearms. The recovered firearm had been reported stolen from Sacramento, further complicating his legal troubles. The incident at the Grand Hyatt Hotel involved a violent attempt at carjacking, and led to the discovery of three illegal firearms in a duffel bag connected to Robinson, as captured by surveillance footage.
Assisting in the Robinson case, were the FBI and the San Francisco Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Justin Lee and Sam Stefanki prosecuted the case. The actions against Robinson are a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that rallies law enforcement at all levels and communities to reduce gun violence and violent crime. Launched in May 2021, the Department's violent crime reduction strategy is aimed at achieving a safer environment in neighborhoods across the region.
