Following a vehicle pursuit in South Sacramento that ended with a car crash, deputies detained a 20-year-old suspect and recovered illegal firearms from his vehicle. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported on social media that deputies assigned to the Sheriff's Central Division Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team attempted to stop a vehicle on Fawn Way and Florin Road for a traffic violation when a chase ensued. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Facebook post, 20-year-old Jason Lindsey Jr., the driver of the vehicle, led deputies on a brief chase before crashing and attempting to flee on foot.
Lindsey's unsuccessful escape ended with his arrest, and the subsequent search of his vehicle unearthed two short-barrel rifles, both equipped with high-capacity magazines and missing their serial numbers. This discovery points to the serious nature of the crime, as California law strictly regulates the ownership of such weapons. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has stated that Lindsey is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is scheduled for a court appearance on March 3.
The incident raises concerns about the circulation of illegal weapons in the community, and emphasizes the role of local law enforcement in combating such threats. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office POP teams are specifically focused on addressing these types of community issues which often involve drugs, gangs, and illegal firearms. As the court date approaches, further details about the case and the charges Lindsey may face are anticipated to emerge.
