Brandon Palmore, a 30-year-old Tampa resident, has entered a guilty plea for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, signaling another step forward for the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative aimed at curtailing violent crime. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Palmore could be facing up to 15 years behind bars, with the court yet to schedule a date for sentencing.
On December 1, 2023, effective coordination among law enforcement officials, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tampa Police Department, led them to an apartment complex where Palmore, already wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant, was under surveillance. It was here that they observed him approach his vehicle and subsequently reach towards the center console as officers closed in, compelling him to exit the vehicle. In that same area he was reaching, a Sig Sauer handgun, loaded and reported stolen, was retrieved. Having previous convictions for grave offenses like aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, federal law dictates that Palmore is barred from the possession of such weapons.
Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang is leading the prosecution of this case, reinforcing federal efforts to bring individuals who add fuel to the fire of gun violence to justice. The intent of Project Safe Neighborhoods is to build bridges between communities and law enforcement, diminish the instances of violent crimes, and elevate the sense of security within our communities.
The Justice Department has been putting a concerted effort into this program since May 26, 2021, working closely with local organizations to help stave off violence before it erupts. With the latest guilty plea of Palmore, they mark another score in their ongoing campaign against a cycle of violence that too often spins out of control, impacting families and neighborhoods at a most fundamental level.
