The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office has taken to social media to laud the efforts of its members for their role in the capture and conviction of convicted murderer Christopher Turner. In a recent Facebook post, both retired Chief Vennum and Sheriff Bill Waybourn publicly recognized the officers for their excellent police work that led to Turner's death sentence. This commendation comes following Turner's conviction in the murder of Anwar Ali, a 62-year-old convenience store owner, in 2020.
In a crime that sent ripples through the community, Turner entered Ali's Super Big Country Mart in an unincorporated area of Tarrant County on March 27, 2020. With a gun pointed at Ali's back, Turner extorted money from the store's cash register. Then, in a tragic turn of events, Turner forced Ali into the store's bathroom and murdered him execution style. After fleeing to Colorado, Turner was eventually tracked down and arrested by U.S. Marshals, leading to his November 2024 conviction for capital murder.
The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office also paid homage to Anwar Ali, whose life ended in such a brutal and sudden manner. "Congratulations to all who played a role in the Turner case," the Sheriff's Office stated in their social media update, bringing a bittersweet end to a case that has weighed heavily on the Tarrant County community for several years.
