On a recent Saturday evening in Ventura, a 15-year-old on an electric motorcycle, identified as a Talaria Sting, led police on a pursuit after committing a traffic violation. The teen fled from officers after they attempted to stop him near the intersection of Johnson Drive and Telephone Road around 7:36 p.m., KTLA reports.
The young motorcyclist, in an attempt to evade capture, took to the Brown Barranca, a narrow river gorge located south of Telephone Road. More officers were called to the scene, and they established a perimeter to contain the suspect to the barranca. One of the officers at the scene also happened to be a drone operator, and, utilizing this technology, was able to locate the suspect within a few minutes. The drone's guidance led perimeter officers to the teen, securing his arrest.
Upon the young motorcyclist's apprehension, it was discovered that he was a juvenile. The Ventura Police Department stated, "Once in custody, officers realized the suspect was a juvenile." He was cited for reckless evading, which is a felony, and for being an unlicensed driver, classified as an infraction, according to a post on the Ventura Police Department's Facebook page. Despite the felony charge, the juvenile was not booked into Juvenile Hall but instead was released to the custody of his parents, and his motorcycle was impounded.
The Ventura Police Department encourages anyone with additional information regarding the pursuit to come forward and contact them at their non-emergency line, 805-650-8010.
