Last Friday night, a Maryland State Trooper's routine was abruptly interrupted by an incident that could have been grave. A woman, now identified as Harriet Penniman Van Kleeck, 63, from Towson, Maryland, was arrested under suspicion of impaired driving following a collision with the trooper's vehicle. This collision occurred on Interstate 695 in Baltimore County, as reported by the Maryland State Police.
According to the Maryland State Police, the trooper was inside her marked patrol car, which was visible with all emergency lights activated. At approximately 11:30 p.m., Van Kleeck's Honda HRV veered across two lanes and impacted the trooper's vehicle. Following the incident, the trooper was promptly taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, but fortunately, she has been released since. The suspect, Van Kleeck, has been charged with suspected impaired driving, among other traffic-related charges, and is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
The Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack, to which the injured trooper was assigned, was the first responder at the scene between Charles Road and York Road. As a result of the accident, a temporary closure of I-695 was necessary to facilitate crash investigation procedures. While the details surrounding the crash are still becoming apparent, the authorities have kept an eye on the ongoing investigation.
