A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening when a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle collided at the intersection of Wardlow Road and Woodruff Avenue in Long Beach, leaving two people dead. The Long Beach Police Department confirmed that the fatal accident happened at approximately 7:35 p.m., according to a press release. Officers arrived at the scene to find emergency medical personnel already providing aid.
Despite the efforts of the Long Beach Fire Department, the motorcyclist and the vehicle's passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a local hospital while healing from their wounds. The Long Beach Police Department's Collision Investigation detectives are spearheading the investigation into the cause of the collision, which preliminarily suggests no implication of impaired driving.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle, operated by 28-year-old Austin Patrick Fett of Lakewood, was traveling north on Woodruff Avenue. At the same time, a 2006 Toyota Highlander was making a left turn from the southbound lane of Woodruff Avenue onto eastbound Wardlow Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, "the preliminary investigation indicates," as stated in the release.
While the identity of the deceased passenger remains private, pending notification of kin by the Los Angeles County Office of the Medical Examiner, the community mourns the loss transmitted through police communications; the affected families await to be notified before making further information public. Long Beach PD encourages anyone with relevant information about the collision to reach out to Detective Efrain Pineda of the Collision Investigation Detail or to submit anonymous tips through "LA Crime Stoppers," providing various contact methods for public assistance in the investigation.
