
Tragedy struck the 2300 block of G Street NE in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night when a fire erupted inside a residence, sending two individuals to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries. DC Fire and EMS Department responded to the scene after receiving calls about a working fire. Upon arrival, crews found flames inside an apartment on the first floor of the building, as reported by DC News Now.
Firefighters worked to control the blaze, which, after about 30 minutes, was successfully extinguished. One victim, a woman, was discovered outside the home on the front porch and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, and as per WUSA9, her current condition remains unknown. A second individual was also removed from the house and taken to the hospital, suffering from minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with officials on-site probing the origins of the devastating incident. The fire was said to have started around 8:15 p.m. and was brought under control in less than an hour, DC Fire & EMS confirmed.
Following the blaze, the fire department updated that the fire was under control and crews were checking for displacements within the building. The extent of the property damage has yet to be fully ascertained, but investigators are working diligently to learn what led up to the conflagration, as mentioned by WJLA.
