The Visual Art League of Lewisville is throwing a free art workshop at Lewisville Grand Theater, and it's open to anyone with a pulse and a penchant for creativity. The shindig, dubbed “Spirit of the Desert: A Southwest Art,” runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
This event aims to splash a little color onto the usual weekend plans by letting attendees channel their inner Georgia O'Keeffe or, at the very least, have a go at creating their desert-themed masterpiece. According to an article published by the City of Lewisville, no experience is required to attend the workshop, bring some enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Renowned artist Steven Rodriguez is the mastermind behind the event, sharing his techniques and inspiring everyone with his approach to southwestern art, attendees are expected to let their creativity run wild with bold colors and distinct patterns that are the typical hallmark of Rodriguez's style.
Supplies will be handed out to participants on the house, but aspiring Picassos can also lug their canvases and primaries if they so desire. While you're there, it's not a bad plan to check out what else The Grand has on deck; the place is Lewisville's home plate for the arts, regularly hosting everything from concerts to comedy nights. Its artsy bones include a 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, and more, meaning it's not just a spot to sling some paint around on a Saturday afternoon.
