The UNLV Lady Rebels advanced to the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament with a 63-46 win over the University of Hawai'i. This victory at Cox Pavilion marks their first postseason win since the 2003-04 WNIT championship. Meadow Roland, a freshman, led the team in scoring with 16 points, according to UNLV Rebels.
The Lady Rebels won their first postseason game under coach Lindy La Rocque, defeating Hawai'i. Amarachi Kimpson scored 14 points, and Macy Spencer added 10 off the bench, as reported by News 3 Las Vegas. McKinna Brackens led the team with 12 rebounds. The team played strong defense, limiting Hawai'i's scoring, with Lily Wahinekapu leading her team with 18 points. A 12-2 run in the third quarter put the Lady Rebels ahead.
Coach La Rocque spoke about Hawai'i's season, saying, "First, congratulations to Hawai'i on a tremendous season. They did the hard thing, similar to us, winning the regular season and then came up short in the conference (Big West) tournament." She also mentioned her team's performance, noting they out-rebounded Hawai'i by 21 and held them under 50 points. The Lady Rebels will play the Florida Gators in the WBIT on Sunday, at 2 p.m. at Cox Pavilion, as mentioned by UNLV Rebels.
