In a recent announcement from Senator Mike Lee's office, the Republican lawmaker outlined the details of the proposed Government Spectrum Valuation Act, a bill designed to require an estimation of the financial value of federal spectrum allocations.
This move, supported by the intent of the second bill to audit the government spectrum, seeks to provide a clearer picture of the spectrum bands and their use across various agencies. "Congress has a clear responsibility to ensure that federal spectrum is being managed effectively and appropriately," Lee emphasized, as mentioned in the same announcement.
In the spirit of transparency and fiscal scrutiny, the bills promote a more informed conversation about how the nation's airwaves are administered. Addressing the need for such measures, Senator Lee stated in a report by his official Senate website, "By calculating the value of federal spectrum allocations, as well as auditing how they are used, Congress and the Trump Administration will be better equipped to identify highly valuable federal spectrum bands, and thus manage each federal spectrum allocation more efficiently."
