A Virginia man, Dusan Dimic, 41, was handed a 41-month prison sentence for his involvement in an elaborate drug trafficking scheme that utilized car-sharing services to deliver cocaine in Northwest Washington, D.C. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Justice, Dimic pleaded guilty last November to a single count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

Operating primarily in the evenings from Thursday to Saturday, Dimic would begin his route at a supermarket on I Street NW, as was stated in a statement obtained by the Department of Justice. On some days, when not personally driving, he provided drivers for his co-conspirator, a delivery operation that law enforcement officials infiltrated, completing 14 controlled drug purchases.

U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton, who handed down the sentence, also ordered Dimic to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. The DEA and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) began their inquiry into the narcotics delivery service in August 2022, utilizing undercover agents to build their case against Dimic and his associates.

Having sat in the driver's seat during transactions, Dimic was arrested by the authorities on September 21, 2023, with the recovery of 90 grams of cocaine found on the driver's side floorboard. According to the same Department of Justice report, his co-defendant was also arrested, from whom law enforcement confiscated an additional significant amount of cash and drugs.

Records from Zipcar showed that vehicles used in the operation were registered under Dimic's account and paid for with his credit card. Throughout their operation, from August 2022 to August 2023, it is estimated that Dimic and his co-conspirators distributed an average of 56 grams of cocaine daily. This case, investigated by the DEA and MPD, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Iris McCranie and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Rasalam, with assistance from Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gary Crosby and Lauren Randall.
