Devin Lamont Williams, a detention officer in Wake County, has been arrested on multiple charges related to trafficking drugs to inmates. According to CBS 17, an extensive investigation prompted by informant tips led to Williams' arrest during his regular shift at the John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center. Williams, 33, is facing serious allegations, including trafficking opium/heroin, possession with intent to sell or distribute controlled substances, and providing contraband to inmates.

Caught without incident, Williams was arrested and is currently being held on a $2 million bond. Employed since March 2023, the reports of alleged contraband smuggling by him came as a shock to the community and the law enforcement body he served with. WRAL reports that he has been charged with felony conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin, in addition to related drug charges including fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoids, and buprenorphine distribution within the facility.

In a swift response to the allegations, Sheriff Willie Rowe made a statement, obtained by ABC11, emphasizing the arrest highlighted the office's commitment to professionalism. "As soon as we were made aware of these allegations, we took immediate action and launched an investigation. This office remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. We will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety of our community or the integrity of this office," said Rowe.

Williams' first court appearance is impending, scheduled for this afternoon. The sheriff reassured the community with further resolution, stating on ABC11, "The men and women of this office work hard every day to serve, and we remain committed to maintaining the public’s trust." He added, "I want to assure the community that we will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure the security of our facility," shared by the Sheriff in a news release.
