Wake County is actively seeking the voices of its residents as it crafts a comprehensive "One Water Plan." This initiative aims to consolidate water-related strategies—including water supply, wastewater management, and flood protection—into a cohesive framework aligned with regional growth and infrastructure development. Wake Forest is among local partners collaborating with the county to bring community insight into the equation. A Community Input Session is set for March 18, inviting public commentary on the plan's direction and proposed strategies.
The session will be held at the Northern Regional Center located at 350 E. Holding Ave., from noon to 1 p.m., providing an opportunity for residents to learn about the plan's objectives and contribute to the drafting of its strategies. Attendees are encouraged to bring a smartphone to the meeting to engage in online polling. Following this in-person event, the county will open a public survey from around April 1 to May 1, offering another platform for input ahead of the draft plan's release slated for summer 2025.
Feedback collected from these engagements will inform the development of the "One Water Plan" which seeks to sustainably support Wake County's expanding population while preserving its finite natural resources. A commitment to equitable resource management is at the core of the plan, and local authorities are emphasizing the importance of public participation in shaping the plan's final form.
For those unable to attend the upcoming session, additional details on the "One Water Plan" and its engrained strategies will be made available in the summer, when the draft plan is scheduled for public comment. This step will be essential in establishing a robust and sustainable water management system that benefits all of Wake County's residents and ecosystems.
