Motorists commuting via Hampton Way should brace for potential delays starting today, as the 2025 Wake Forest Road Resurfacing Project moves into a new phase. According to the official Town of Wake Forest, traffic on the stretch between Durham Road/NC 98 and Wake Union Church Road will be downsized to one lane, open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while crews labor to install ADA-compliant ramps.
The alteration will persist through the end of March, obligating flaggers and posted guides to expertly steer motorists through the modified traffic patterns. The necessity to briefly impede the usual rush is rooted in the goal of enhanced accessibility, part of a larger effort targeting 15 streets across Wake Forest. Effort is being made to not only resurface but to also replace several black ADA ramps with yellow mats, aligning with national standards.
Initiated in February, the concrete work portion of the project now gives way to the heavy task of asphalting, set to begin in June. This ongoing endeavor, born from the 2022 Wake Forest Bond Referendum initiative, encompasses full depth patching and comprehensive roadway repairs, alongside curb and gutter rehabilitation.
In aiming to fortify our communal routes, the 2025 Road Resurfacing Project underlines an infrastructure undergoing transformation. Work is looking to not merely slap down asphalt but to deeply revitalize the thoroughfares upon which we so regularly tread. It's an overhaul significant enough to merit temporary inconvenience for the promise of safer, more durable streets ahead.
