A D.C. man has been convicted on multiple criminal charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and drug distribution. Deangelo Lorenzo Lewis, a 28-year-old resident of Washington D.C., faced a jury that found him guilty on these charges, the U.S. Department of Justice reported yesterday.

Detailed in court documents, Lewis was apprehended by Deputy U.S. Marshals on October 3, 2023. The arrest came after he was discovered renting an apartment using a stolen identity. The apartment search, conducted under a warrant obtained post-arrest, led to the discovery of more than $150,000 in what appeared to be stolen checks, a check printer, and blank check stock, along with various forms of stolen identification. In what's now seemingly become a trend, authorities also uncovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol and a quantity of marijuana packaged for sale.

The U.S. Attorney's Office reports that the convicted felon was in possession of a Century Arms, Micro Draco 7.62 x 39mm pistol, armed with 26 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, alongside two 9mm handgun magazines. The total weight of marijuana found was roughly 1 ½ pounds. With D.C.'s continued crackdown on gun violence, this case highlights ongoing issues facing law enforcement in managing both illegal firearms and drug distribution within the city's borders.

U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan scheduled the May 30, 2025 sentencing hearing. The case was a collaborative investigative effort by the United States Marshals Service and the FBI’s Washington Field Office. The prosecution team, consisting of Assistant U.S. Attorneys James B. Nelson, Justin F. Song, Jacqueline O. Yarbro, and Paralegal Specialist Jenna Lee, are now preparing to ensure that appropriate sentencing guidelines are thoroughly considered to hopefully deter similar crimes.
