A man has been sentenced to 17 years for a fatal shooting that took place in Northeast D.C. last June. Antonio Johnson, 33, from Washington, D.C., received his sentence yesterday, for the voluntary manslaughter of Marcellus Jackson, confirmed by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The shooting occurred outside an apartment complex at 4400 Hunt Place.
Johnson, who has been in custody since the incident, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter while armed in December 2024. During a verbal altercation, Johnson pointed a loaded firearm at Jackson, warned him to stop playing, and then shot him before fleeing the scene, as detailed in the statement released by the U.S. Attorney's Office. It is reported that he was arrested on the same day of the killing, June 20, 2024.
The U.S. Attorney's Office, with the aid of the MPD, conducted the investigation that led to Johnson's arrest and subsequent sentencing. In the announcement of the sentencing, both Martin and Smith expressed their gratitude to the MPD officers involved in the case. They also acknowledged the efforts of those from the U.S. Attorney's Office, specifically naming Paralegal Specialist Gracy Rivera and Victim/Witness Advocate Christie Bloodworth for their roles in bringing the case to a close. Additionally, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Ganjei was recognized for his outstanding work in investigating and prosecuting Johnson's case.
