Landlords in West Allis looking to step up their property management game are in luck, as the Police Department is offering a free training program designed to squarely address the nuts and bolts of property rental. Starting April 8, the sessions will run on consecutive Thursdays until April 22, each from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Allis Municipal Courtroom, located at 11301 W. Lincoln Ave.
According to the City of West Allis announcement, there's no need to sign up ahead of time, and landlords can choose to freely attend one, two, or all three sessions. The program is set to cover a broad spectrum of topics, aimed to thoroughly equip landlords with the necessary knowledge to effectively manage their properties and to professionally better navigate tenant relations.
On the docket for April 8, attendees will learn about tenant litigation, evictions, lease agreements, and the less-discussed, but equally important topics of lead abatement as well as refuse, recycling, and pest control issues. These initial discussions will lay the groundwork for landlords to not only manage their properties but also to understand their obligations under the law with regards to environmental and health standards.
For those looking to better screen potential renters and ensure their rental documents are up to scratch, the April 15 session will address these points, in addition to tackling the always tricky nuisance property issues. And finally, on April 22, the nuts and bolts of building inspections, city codes, and points of contact will be reviewed, together with an overview of the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program.
