Wilmington Police made an arrest last week on gun charges, targeting a man already sought-after on separate, unrelated issues. On the morning of March 5, while conducting a firearm investigation in the 700 block of North Madison Street, officers encountered 25-year-old Nizere Fitzgerald and discovered he had a warrant out for his arrest.
Detailed in a Nixle report, authorities apprehended Fitzgerald without incident and, during the course of their inquiry, found him to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, the serial number of which was not only unreadable but the firearm itself turned out to be stolen.
Fitzgerald now faces multiple charges: Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Receiving a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, and Tampering with Physical Evidence; these allegations stack atop his previously existing warrant.
After the arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Fitzgerald's freedom came at a price—he posted a cash-only bail set at $13,000.
