The National Weather Service, has forecasted a weather pattern for the regions encompassing Columbus, Cincinnati, Wilmington, and nearby areas that residents should keep an eye on. According to National Weather Service latest report, today will see the high pressure that's been affecting the region start to slide off as evening approaches. This shift in pressure will result in increased high clouds and some gusty southwest winds as we go through the day, but temperatures are expected to return to more typical values for this time of year.
Looking to tonight and into Saturday, a short wave will be moving out of the upper Mississippi Valley and across our area, which brings a cold front along with it. While the low-level moisture doesn't quite hit the mark of impressive, there could be just enough atmospheric oomph to trigger some light rain showers, especially in the northern counties. It's a brief affair, with any rainfall amounts expected to be on the lighter side. Winds are also set to stick around, and they'll pick right back up on Saturday, with gusts that may seem to want to show off just a bit with their strength. As for temperatures, plan for a bit of a split; they'll range from the mid-40s in western parts of central Ohio to the mid to upper 50s in northern Kentucky.
The longer-term outlook reveals that as we head into Sunday, buckle up for widespread rain to wash over the region, thanks to a more pronounced system moving in. "Confidence is fairly high that rainfall amounts area-wide are around the half inch mark," says the report from the National Weather Service. This figure, however, could climb in places where the rain decides to linger for a longer show. The expected precipitation might take a break as we round out Sunday night, but those in the north could see some extra showers come Monday.
From Tuesday through Thursday, those weak disturbances we're all too familiar with will be making their rounds, causing occasional light precipitation chances. Temperatures will remain fairly steady during this period, with a slight warming trend peering over the horizon for Thursday. And while we might be patiently waiting for that next "decent warm up," it seems to have penciled itself into our schedules for Friday.
