In an ambitious move to support sustainability and combat climate change at the local level, Yolo County has unveiled its Community Climate Action Fund. The initiative, as reported by Yolo County News, is aimed at empowering local organizations to implement projects that align with the county’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). This fund of $171,270 marks a tangible effort to help the county reach a carbon-negative footprint by 2030, with a critical eye on equitable transition for every resident.
Grants from the fund range between $5,000 to $30,000 and are available to Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), schools, tribal governments, and special districts. The focus is on projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase climate resilience, or promote environmental sustainability. Given the urgency and the gravitas of the climate crisis confronting marginalized communities, the fund prioritizes projects serving the unincorporated areas of Yolo County. Details of these funding opportunities were laid out in official announcements.
Knowledge-sharing is central to the program's success, and to facilitate this, the Sustainability Division will host two webinars. These sessions will guide potential applicants through the process and provide answers to pertinent questions regarding funding opportunities and eligibility criteria. Interested parties can find registration links and more details on the county's Climate Fund page.
The application period for this newly minted fund closes on May 9, with the expectation that selected projects will reach completion by December 2026. To stay updated or for further engagement, community members and interested applicants can connect via the county’s dedicated email or social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, or by signing up for the E-Newsletter outlined in Yolo County News.
