A Yucaipa man was shot and wounded while protecting his younger brother from an assault by a fellow resident in La Casita Mobile Home Park. The suspect, identified as 60-year-old Kris Morgan, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported.
The incident unfolded on Sunday evening when the victim, a 21-year-old resident of Yucaipa, confronted Morgan, who was physically assaulting his 17-year-old brother, which led to the shooting. After interceding, Morgan allegedly threatened the victim and his brother with a gun, then reappeared from his home with a silver revolver, opened fire as the victim tried to leave in his car. Despite the attempt, the victim was hit in the left arm but survived.
Responding to the 33800 block of Avenue G around 6:45 p.m., deputies found Morgan exiting his home with the revolver in hand. He complied with deputies' orders, dropping the weapon, and was promptly taken into custody. A subsequent search of Morgan's residence turned up eight firearms, including the revolver believed to be used in the attack. Morgan is now being held at Central Detention Center on a $2,300,000 bail, facing a serious attempt at answering for his life-threatening actions.
The victim was transported swiftly to a hospital and is said to be in stable condition. For those with knowledge of the affair, information is sought by the Yucaipa Sheriff's Station at (909) 918-2305 or through the anonymous tip line We-Tip at 1-888-78-CRIME.
