The Duval County Public School system has reason to hold its head high, as 31 of its senior students have achieved the prestigious status of National Merit Scholarship Finalists—a testament to their academic prowess and diligence. These students hail from six high schools across the district, distinguishing themselves through a rigorous selection process that annually sees approximately 1.3 million hopefuls vying for 6,780 scholarships totaling nearly $26 million, according to a Duval County Public Schools announcement.
To contend for these esteemed scholarships, students must not only exhibit exceptional scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, but also satisfy a robust set of criteria including the presentation of an articulate essay, a consistent record of high academic performance, and the procurement of a recommendation from a school official with the eventual aim of making it to the final round of consideration for these coveted awards as one of the approximately 15,000 finalists.
It is with great pride that we extend our congratulations to the National Merit Scholarship Finalists from each of the following schools: Duncan U. Fletcher High School, Mandarin High School, Paxon School for Advanced Studies, Sandalwood High School, Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies, and Stanton College Preparatory School; a detailed list of these bright young minds can be found on the school district's official announcement.
Not only do these achievements signal personal success for each student, but they also reflect the dedication and quality of education provided by Duval County Public Schools, as they prepare to advance further in the competition when the winners of the National Merit Scholarships will be made public later this spring.
