On a day when many were gathering to celebrate Easter, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge were to duly uncover more than $800,000 worth of cocaine concealed within a vehicle. As reported by CBP's official release, the seizure saw a black GMC SUV stopped and searched, leading to a substantial narcotics bust last Sunday.
"Our frontline CBP officers continue to maintain strict vigilance amid heavy traffic on holidays like Easter Sunday and that dedication and effective utilization of technology and experience resulted in this significant cocaine seizure," Port Director Carlos Rodriguez stated, as noted by the CBP. The search process incorporated both nonintrusive inspection equipment and the assistance of a canine team.
The inspection that took place on the Hidalgo International Bridge led to the discovery of 24 packages of alleged cocaine, with a combined weight of approximately 63.80 pounds (29.72 kg), neatly concealed within the structure of the GMC vehicle. The officers' attentiveness and detailed inspection protocols proved critical in detecting and seizing these substances. As a result of this operation, both the narcotics and the vehicle were confiscated. Homeland Security Investigations took the driver into custody and initiated a criminal investigation.
