The City of Akron has just elevated several key figures within its Public Service and Neighborhood Assistance Departments to new heights, with a spate of promotions and fresh hires taking on leadership roles intended to bolster local governance. According to an announcement from the City of Akron, Jeff Bronowski, a longstanding city servant with 30 years under his belt, has been named the new Deputy Director of Public Service, stepping in with a wealth of experience from multiple roles, including most recently as the Water Supply Bureau Manager.
Under his tenure, the Water Supply Bureau gained accolades for its exemplary performance. The city has also seen Jon Malish replacing the retired Jim Hall as Public Works Manager back in late 2024, and Anthony Dolly stepping up as his Deputy. This duo is at the vanguard of the Public Works Division, navigating public projects and infrastructure management.
"The City of Akron is fortunate to have amazing public servants at every level of our organization," Akron Mayor Shammas Malik voiced in a statement obtained by the City of Akron, handing plaudits to the seasoned professionals. "Our Public Works and Neighborhood Assistance Divisions are benefiting from leaders who are experienced, knowledgeable, and responsive to the residents we serve."
Other noticeable promotions include Scott Rhind as Parks Maintenance Superintendent and Garland Paynther as Highway Maintenance Superintendent, amidst broader prevailing efforts to enhance the operational efficiency of the city's public services. Furthermore, Taron Cunningham has come on board as a Housing Rehabilitation Manager in Neighborhood Assistance, and Emily Collins has returned to her municipal roots as the Environmental Services Manager, a post she assumed last month.
Bronowski's illustrious career, which began as a Civil Engineer in 1994, now pivots into a role wherein he intends to leverage his depth of knowledge and expertise to serve the Akron community better. A University of Akron alumnus, he's a registered Professional Engineer and holds a prestigious Class IV Water Supply Operator license in Ohio—a testament to his dedication to maintaining high water quality standards for Akron residents.
