A high-speed chase that unfolded across the San Fernando Valley Saturday night ended with an alleged DUI driver abandoning their vehicle in the parking structure of the NOHO West shopping center, authorities confirmed. In a chase that at times reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, the incident began on the 14 Freeway in Canyon Country and snaked its way to the 5 Freeway before spilling onto local streets. The suspect navigated the freeway without headlights or taillights. California Highway Patrol assumed the chase from the Los Angeles Police Department when the suspect took to the freeway, where speeds continued to hover near 100 mph. The pursuit then transitioned to surface streets in Burbank and North Hollywood, where, according to NBC Los Angeles, the driver compounded the danger by driving on the wrong side of the road and running red lights.
The chase culminated just before 9:00 p.m. when the suspect drove into NOHO West, barreling through a barrier gate and parking their vehicle inside the structure. A search was then conducted by police to locate the driver, but there has been no word on arrests made related to the incident.
