
An incident occurred in an Apex neighborhood last Friday night during a child custody exchange. According to Apex police, a man named Bradford Brown struck and killed a grandmother with his vehicle during a heated altercation. The grandmother was related to the child involved in the custody exchange, which took place at a residence on Apache Lane. WRAL stated that the incident occurred around 10 p.m. and quickly escalated from a verbal dispute between the father and the maternal grandparents of the child.
Following the collision, witnesses reported to police that Brown fled the scene on foot, but he was quickly apprehended and has now been charged with voluntary manslaughter. The authorities have yet to release information on the motive or the sequence of events that led to the grandmother's death. However, they disclosed to ABC11 that additional charges may follow as the investigation unfolds.
The Apex Police Department expressed their condolences over the situation. "The Apex Police Department would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim," they shared in a Facebook post.
According to reports by The News & Observer, another individual who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident ran away and remains unidentified and at large.
