Las Vegas attorney Sigal Chattah has taken the helm as the Interim United States Attorney for the District of Nevada, overseeing federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation in the region. Chattah, who previously ran her own law firm, steps into a role that commands a team of over 100 legal professionals across offices in both Las Vegas and Reno. The U.S. Department of Justice announced this development yesterday.
The responsibilities now resting on Chattah's shoulders are not light; her office is the spearhead of justice in Nevada, targeting a wide array of legal issues from white collar crime to public corruption, drug trafficking to protecting citizens' civil rights. Prior to this appointment, Chattah was at the helm of her law practice, Chattah Law Group, and also imparted her knowledge teaching Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 2005 to 2009. Her educational background includes a J.D. from Widener University School of Law, in Pennsylvania, and a B.S. in Political Science from UNLV.
Chattah's experience in and out of the courtroom is expected to influence her approach to the interim position. Her background as a private practitioner in Las Vegas offers a unique perspective that could shape her prosecutorial priorities and management style, differing from those of a career prosecutor.
