In a recent announcement by Governor Josh Stein, North Carolina is set to welcome Bailey Manufacturing Company (BMC), a key player in the production of stamped metal automotive parts, to Scotland County. The move is expected to bolster the local economy by creating 35 new jobs and generating an investment of $4.3 million. According to an official release from the Governor’s Office, BMC plans to expand its operations with a new facility in Laurinburg, which will notably double the company’s production capacity.

As Governor Stein put it, “Bailey Manufacturing’s decision to locate to Scotland County is more proof that North Carolia is a top state for businesses across all industries.” The company, which originates from New York, is known to supply major automotive brands such as General Motors. This expansion is not just about the numbers—it's set to considerably better serve BMC’s customer base in the Southeast.

John Hines, President of Bailey Manufacturing Company, expressed his excitement about the new facility, stating, "I want to thank North Carolina, Scotland County, Scotland County EDC and the City of Laurinburg for their assistance in making this project a reality and look forward to a prosperous future together," as reported by an official press release.

N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley touched on the extensive automotive supply chain present in the state, praising BMC as a "great addition." The company's presence is expected to join a roster of more than 250 manufacturers in this sector. Lilley emphasized that North Carolina is primed with the manufacturing workforce and transportation networks to truly support operations such as that of BMC, as per the official release from the Governor’s Office.

These new roles offer an average salary of $52,000, surpassing the county's average, and are projected to infuse over $1.8 million annually into the regional payroll. Encouraging such economic growth, the One North Carolina Fund is extending a $120,000 performance-based grant to BMC. This initiative demands companies to fulfill job creation and investment goals before funds are dispersed, ensuring their commitment to the state's growth.

Local officials, including N.C. Senator Danny Earl Britt and N.C. Representative Garland E. Pierce, have welcomed the move. Britt praised the county's workforce, ready to rally behind BMC, while Pierce heralded the decision as confirmation of Scotland County's appealing environment for expanding businesses.

Several entities have played a role in bringing BMC's project to fruition, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, and others dedicated to fostering economic development in the area.
