The Baltimore Ravens and the Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation have joined forces with the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, injecting $3.75 million into the city’s Healthy Harbor Initiative over the next five years, a commitment announced yesterday that aims to combat pollution in the harbor, according to FOX Baltimore.
This new initiative is designed to significantly enhance the operations of the eco-friendly debris collector, known as Mr. Trash Wheel, including its maintenance. It will additionally fund the planting of oysters in the Inner Harbor, Sashi Brown, the Ravens president, shared his enthusiasm for the project citing the goal to remove 5 million pounds of waste and to cultivate millions of oysters, both efforts conducive to the revitalization of the local ecosystem in a statement reported by WBALTV.
Under this partnership, there are broader plans beyond mere trash collection, including aspirations to enhance water quality and bolster wildlife diversity with Laurie Schwartz, president of the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, expressing deep gratitude for the investment, which she feels transcends litter management—their sights set on fostering a vibrant and sustainable harbor ecosystem.
