Students and staff at Bellaire High School faced a tense situation on Tuesday when a text message threat prompted the school to enter a secure mode. As reported by KHOU, Principal Michael Niggli informed parents of the precautionary measures, stating, "have been made aware of a threat against our school received by text message." Despite the disruption, he reassured that the Houston ISD Police Department was looking into the incident, and, the testing that was underway on Tuesday continued.

According to a subsequent email from Niggli, which was reported by The Houston Chronicle, the lockdown at Bellaire High School was lifted after the HISD police department concluded its investigation. "Please know that we take all threats very seriously. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority," Niggli stated. Notably this school year, Bellaire High School has encountered multiple security incidents, including bomb threats and lockdowns due to firearms discovered on campus.

The school administration had previously introduced new districtwide weapons detection systems in January, an effort to tighten security following these incidents. Bellaire High School was among the first HISD high schools to adopt these measures. Niggli expressed gratitude towards the school community for their support in maintaining a safe environment for education despite the disturbances caused by such threats, as per The Houston Chronicle.
