A welfare check in Grass Valley led to a grim discovery on April 15, as deputies found a body buried on a property after being called to investigate due to concerns from a family member. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office stated they responded to the home on the 12000 block of Boundary Way around 11 p.m. This initial visit quickly turned into a homicide investigation when the body of 63-year-old Patrick McCaffree was unearthed.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery of McCaffree's body were not detailed, but authorities indicated that they quickly suspected foul play. An autopsy to determine the cause of death was conducted on Thursday at the Placer County Sheriff's Office morgue, with results still pending.
