In Bucks County, a 20-year-old woman named Anjela Borisova Urumova has been sentenced to 45 days to 23 months at Bucks County Correctional Facility for falsely accusing an innocent man of attempted rape and kidnapping, a report from the Bucks County Government website confirmed. Urumova, who is also required to pay $3,600 in restitution and submit to a mental health evaluation, made the unwarranted claim last year in Middletown Township, resulting in the wrongful incarceration of the accused for a month.
The case, not a run-of-the-mill false reports scenario, caught the attention of District Attorney Jennifer Schorn, who commented, "A crime like this can shatter the community’s confidence in the system," acknowledging the broader impact of such acts, and McElroy, who said "In this case, she targeted an innocent man and accused him of one of the worst crimes a person can be accused of" – putting a spotlight not just on the personal ramifications but also on the potential societal consequences of false allegations, according to county's news release.
The January plea included one count each of false alarm to an agency of public safety and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, two counts of false reports, and three counts of unsworn falsification to authorities, as cited by Bucks County's official notice. Beyond incarceration, Urumova’s punishment extended to one year of probation and mandated no contact with the victim or his family.
The aftermath of the false accusations has been emotionally taxing for the wrongfully accused man, whose identity has been withheld. He was in court during sentencing alongside his wife and mother, choosing not to speak on the matter.
