A Canastota man, identified as 46-year-old Andrew Snyder, has received a five-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug conspiracy and firearms offenses. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Snyder was involved in the distribution of methamphetamine and a heroin/fentanyl mixture, in addition to illegally possessing firearms as a user of controlled substances.

The announcement was made following Snyder's sentencing by Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes. Snyder had previously admitted to conducting these illegal activities out of the garage of his home in Madison County, from approximately October 2020 up till May 17, 2022. On that day specifically, Snyder was found in possession of two 9mm handguns and ammunition, despite being an unlawful user of controlled substances.

The case against Snyder was part of a collaborative investigation effort that included the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Madison County Sheriff's Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, and New York State Police. According to the statement provided by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and other law enforcement officials, Snyder's wife, Jessica Snyder, is also implicated in the case and is scheduled for sentencing on April 24.

Following his prison term, Andrew Snyder will be placed under supervised release for a duration of four years. This sentence is a culmination of efforts by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas R. Sutcliffe and Matthew J. McCrobie, who prosecuted the case.
