As the world gears up to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, Mayor Barbara Foushee has declared April "Earth Month" in Carrboro. The proclamation serves as a call to action for residents to adopt more sustainable daily practices and participate in climate action initiatives. According to a recent announcement by the Town of Carrboro, the theme of this year’s Earth Day is "Our Power, Our Planet," highlighting the impact of grassroots movements in driving environmental change.
To raise environmental awareness, residents are encouraged to educate themselves on environmental issues, share their knowledge, and support laws aimed at reducing emissions and improving climate resilience. At the local level, Carrboro is working to reduce community carbon emissions, which is a central part of the town's Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Plan. This initiative emphasizes the town's focus on sustainability.
The community is invited to participate in Carrboro's Earth Day and Open Streets event tomorrow from 12 to 4 p.m. According to the official proclamation, Weaver Street will be closed to traffic, allowing residents to walk, cycle, and take part in eco-friendly activities.
