Heads up, Charlotte County families and ocean enthusiasts! There's a splash of excitement coming our way with Sam and Charlotte’s Underwater Adventure. The Centennial Park Recreation Center at 1120 Centennial Blvd., in Port Charlotte is gearing up to host this immersive event on April 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., opening a window into the aquatic world for folks of all abilities.
The highlight of this year's event is the introduction of Milo, a unique character who breaks down communication barriers by using sign language in his role as a deaf deep-sea explorer. By engaging with Milo, participants will experience sea exploration through a new lens, fostering inclusivity beneath the ocean's surface. The event prides itself on ensuring that, "participants of all abilities can fully engage in and enjoy the adventure without any barriers or limitations," as detailed on the official Charlotte County website.
The underwater journey doesn't end there. Sam and Charlotte's Underwater Adventure is teeming with creativity—an array of activities awaits that promise to captivate both the young and the young at heart. Creative crafts, interactive games, and opportunities for memorable photos are all designed to create a treasure trove of memories. For families, the fun is not only in play but, also in the resources made available by various Charlotte County agencies dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities.
If your sea legs are ready and your curiosity piqued, chart a course for an afternoon where the only thing deeper than the ocean is the sense of community and connection. Information and resources will be shared on-site by local agencies to ensure families navigating life with disabilities are not adrift but anchored by support. The experience is as much an adventure as it is a lighthouse—guiding towards awareness and understanding, according to the event planners.
