A Chino Hills residence became the scene of a high-tension break-in when, on Wednesday, deputies answered to a call of a burglary in progress, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department. At around 8:22 P.M., law enforcement was dispatched to the 2800 block of Venezia Terrace Drive, only to find that the homeowner had fired their gun at one of the suspected home intruders after they had broken in through a shattered second-floor balcony door.
The incident escalated as deputies, suspecting one of the invaders might still be hiding within the walls of the residence, quickly set to scouring the household with aid from the Chino Police Department and the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, finding no one inside and expanding the hunt to nearby vicinities but to no avail. Suspects remaining at large and details of the confrontation remain sketchy as the homeowner has not been publicly identified, and the suspects have yet to be apprehended. According to the Sheriff's Department, the investigation is still actively ongoing, and community members with any insights are prompted to reach out to Detective Michael Schlegel at the Chino Hills Station, or they can stay anonymous by dropping a tip via We-Tip Hotline or its website.
