James Jarrard, previously on parole for assault with a firearm, has been sentenced to over 50 years in prison. He was found guilty of vehicle theft, felony evading, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, and two firearm enhancements following a high-speed chase and standoff with police in Citrus Heights, according to the Sacramento District Attorney's Office.
On October 16, 2022, Jarrard was spotted driving a stolen truck, leading officers on a chase before crashing into a tree and fleeing on foot, armed with a loaded gun. He forced his way into a home during his escape, causing one victim to jump from a window, resulting in injury. Deputy District Attorney Jordan Greenberg emphasized Jarrard's prior convictions and the life-threatening danger his actions posed to the residents. The trial, which concluded on February 14, revealed the severity of his offenses, as reported by the Sacramento District Attorney's Office.
Last Friday, Jarrard was sentenced to 59 years and 4 months to life in prison after being convicted for a high-speed chase in which officers found methamphetamine and a loaded firearm in a stolen truck. His criminal history, including two strike offenses for assault with a firearm and a prior strike for residential burglary, was mentioned during the sentencing, as stated by the Sacramento District Attorney's Office.
