Clark County will hold "An Evening with the Stars of Foster Care" on April 22, at 6 p.m. at the Pearson Recreation Center in North Las Vegas. The event, hosted by Clark County Family Services, will focus on the need for more African American foster homes and feature foster parents sharing their experiences.
An upcoming event will feature a panel of African American "foster parent stars" who will share their experiences as foster parents. The event addresses the shortage of African American foster parents and the importance of placing children in culturally responsive environments. Clark County Family Services Director Frank Prado said, "Providing a nurturing and culturally affirming environment is essential for children in foster care, though we understand it comes with real challenges." Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II stated, "It is imperative that we bridge the gap and ensure that children in foster care have access to homes that reflect their cultural heritage."
Clark County Family Services is holding a free public event to help people interested in becoming foster parents. The event will include on-site fingerprinting and support with the application process. It aims to increase the number of African American foster parents but is open to everyone. Representatives will be available to answer questions and provide information. “Our foster parents consistently share that the rewards—seeing a child heal, grow, and thrive in their care—are immeasurable,” said Prado.
