Boaters in the Clay County area should take note of an important safety notice issued via social media: A "Slow Speed Minimum Wake" sign has reportedly been knocked down or broken off near the northeast side of the Drs Lake Bridge, generating a new obstacle within the waters. The absence of this sign positions a greater risk for those navigating near the north bank of the river, especially under challenging weather conditions, as warned by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
With the sign now submerged, the Sheriff's Office has urged mariners to exercise extreme caution in the vicinity, anticipating that the combined effects of wind and waves could obscure the hazard, making it difficult to detect and thus, more dangerous as boats could inadvertently strike the debris, the alert also indicated that while the Coast Guard and Waterways have been informed, their response time is still unknown — the local authorities strive to maintain a vigilant eye over the affected area, they cannot predict exactly when the issue will be rectified.
This call for heightened awareness and careful navigation comes directly from a post on the official Facebook page of the Clay County Sheriff's Office, where the authorities have vowed to increase their presence in the area to ensure boater safety until the sign can be replaced or repaired.
