Red Line riders in Cleveland should brace for some changes the first weekend of May. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) announced that a rail replacement bus service, known as the 66R, will operate between Tower City and Airport stations on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4.

The temporary disruption is caused by essential station work, and commuters are advised to plan their travels accordingly. Service will be affected from early Saturday until the end of Sunday, with 66R buses taking over the route every 30 minutes. "Red Line Alert! Rail replacement bus service (66R) between Tower City and Airport stations on May 3-4 due to station work," detailed an announcement by GCRTA on social media.

During this weekend, travelers will be directed to designated 66R bus stops. These stops are marked with orange signs located at W. Prospect & W. 3rd (Tower City) and the Ground Transportation Center (Airport), also serving W. 65-Detroit and W. 25-Detroit. However, there will be no 66R stops at W.65th-Lorain and W.25th-Ohio City stations. For travelers affected by these exceptions, the authority recommends using the #22 Lorain or other nearby routes to reach their destinations.

The Red Line rail will continue to operate as normal between Tower City and Stokes Windermere during the station work, meaning that disruptions should be limited to the areas above. The GCRTA also assures that full service is set to resume on Monday, May 5. For real-time tracking of the 66R service or more updates, passengers can use the Transit app. "Thanks for your understanding!" concluded the GCRTA's message to its riders.
