A Canoga Park community is grappling with the aftermath of a fatal stabbing that occurred on Thursday night, as detailed by NBC Los Angeles. A man in his 30s, who has yet to be named, was riding his bicycle carrying food and a backpack when he was attacked and fatally stabbed around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of International Avenue and Canoga Avenue.
The incident left the man screaming for help as he collapsed onto a red car, a bystander named Chris Sanchez witnessed the unfolding tragedy and shared his account, "He fell onto that red car and started screaming for help, and a lady from one of these apartments came out and tried to help him," he recalled to NBC Los Angeles. "From there, he was just laying there. Nobody was able to help him." Local residents expressed their unfamiliarity with the victim, and authorities have not yet made any arrests, nor have they released a description of the attacker.
Further reporting from KTLA notes that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to what was initially reported as a battery incident on the 8500 block of International Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the man with a sharp force wound, and despite paramedics' efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The LAPD's Valley Bureau Homicide Division has taken the lead on the investigation, and a preliminary investigation disclosed that the victim and a male suspect were involved in a confrontation before the stabbing, with the suspect subsequently fleeing on foot, as per information in a press release posted to LAPD's official PIO Twitter account. While the quest for justice intensifies, the LAPD has implored the public for any information regarding the incident, urging individuals to contact the Operation Valley Bureau Homicide detectives or the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers for anonymous tips.
