The City of Davis Parks and Community Services Department is tapping into the artistic potential of its youth with a 2025 Photo Contest open to teens and college students. This year's theme, "Community Connections," seeks to capture the essence of Davis parks and their role in the lives of those who frequent them.
With a nod to the role public spaces play in bringing communities together, the contest encourages entrants to submit photographs that represent their personal connection to these green havens. The call for submissions will close on May 2 at midnight, serving as the deadline for aspiring photographers to showcase their vision. According to the City of Davis website, prizes await the winners, along with the honor of having their work displayed at City Hall and the Veterans Memorial Center starting June 2.
Entry fees are waived for teens, while college students will need to shell out a nominal $5 for the submission of up to three photos. For those interested in participating, registration details and more information can be found on the City of Davis Parks and Community Services website, specifically under the Teens and Special Interest Classes pages. Furthermore, Alyssa Branum is the go-to contact should photographers have any queries, available at [email protected].
The winning photos will not only be featured in the Fall RecGuide, they will also be announced at the Recreation and Park Commission Meeting on May 21. This contest underscores the department's commitment to fostering communal ties through recreational endeavors, public spaces, and the shared experiences of leisure activities. In essence, it's a celebration of how a city's parks can become interwoven with the fabric of its society, channeled through the unique lens of its youngest residents.
