A Dearborn Heights man, previously a fugitive residing in Guam, is slated to appear before a Michigan court following his extradition to stand trial on charges of sexual assault. Thirty-one-year-old Jordan Wagner faces allegations of assaulting a pre-teen family member during a home visit in 2012, with charges filed eight years later in 2020. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel reported that Wagner has been bound over to trial in the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and three counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
The financial barriers that once impeded the extradition process have since been dissolved through the support of a state-funded initiative, Operation Survivor Justice, dedicated for these exact scenarios, Wagner was retrieved from Guam in September of 2024 and is one of many fugitives targeted through the partnership of local prosecutors, the Michigan Department of Attorney General, and the U.S. Marshals Service, this operation is bolstered by a $1 million state appropriation earmarked to hold offenders accountable. According to the Michigan Department of Attorney General, this initiative is crucial as "Cold case sex-assault cases that are left unsolved leave survivors without closure and perpetrators without accountability," a statement that foregrounds the intention of ensuring justice and closure for survivors.
The charges Wagner faces are serious, indicative of an alleged deep betrayal of trust within his family circle. These accusations surfaced following the victim's brave disclosure years after the alleged incidents occurred, a testament to the profound and often prolonged struggles faced by survivors of sexual assault seeking justice and reprieve from their silent anguish. While the local Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office initially pressed charges, the extradition was hindered by financial constrictions until the establishment of the purpose-specific funding through Operation Survivor Justice made Wagner's return to face trial possible.
Wagner's upcoming court appearance is scheduled for April 23.
