The Denver Police Department has initiated its annual Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign, ramping up patrols between April 7th and 13th. The announcement, shared in a social media post, indicates a focused effort on drivers and passengers who neglect to use their seat belts, a violation of transportation safety laws. This enforcement period aligns with national efforts to increase awareness of the life-saving potential of seat belt usage, as per the Denver Police Department.
Authorities are emphasizing that seat belts significantly reduce the risk of fatal injury for front-seat passenger car occupants by about 45%, a statistic reinforcing the rationale behind the stringent enforcement. The enforcement not only targets adult drivers and front-seat passengers, but also focuses on those transporting unrestrained children, stressing the updated law’s requirements. "Seat belts save lives — no matter where you’re going," according to the Denver Police Department. "Whether it’s a drive on a highway or a quick trip nearby, always buckle up!"
This initiative is a collaboration between the Denver Police, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Colorado State Patrol. These agencies jointly participate in the Click It or Ticket campaign as a part of a nationwide high-visibility enforcement program designed to promote seat belt use and reduce roadway fatalities.
As the program unfolds, Denver Police officers will be visible on the roads, ready to issue citations as part of their compliance operations. The fines for not wearing a seat belt vary, however, the real cost, as pointed by safety advocates, is the increased risk to one’s safety on the road. Denver roads are expected to see heightened law enforcement presence until the campaign’s conclusion next week.
