The search for 17-year-old London Thomas, a missing Detroit teen, came to a tragic close as authorities confirmed the discovery of her body in Southfield. According to Local 4, Thomas had been missing since April 5, when she was last seen at her boyfriend’s house on Carlysle Street in Inkster.
Following a tip relayed to the FBI, Inkster police affirmed her body was found yesterday, although it's unclear at this time what circumstances led to her death or where exactly she was found. Her family, together with community members, had been tirelessly searching for her, and earlier last week, Detroit police and the FBI searched the home of the teen’s boyfriend. Any individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
Different sources have provided additional details surrounding the circumstances of the teen's disappearance. WXYZ reports that the body was located in the Southfield area near 8 Mile and Telegraph, and that authorities had initially considered the possibility of foul play, executing multiple search warrants in the process. The teen's boyfriend has been declared a person of interest in the case.
London Thomas, remembered for her outspoken nature and a soft heart, with passions for music and hair, has left a community grieving and seeking answers. "Terror, just a horrible, horrible nightmare," her mother, Jasma Bennett, told FOX 2 Detroit during the search efforts. Echoing the family's desperation, Thomas' father, Cedric Salisbury, said, "We're just trying to get answers. Inkster police haven't been reaching out to us." Their heartrending quest for closure had been bolstered by a comprehensive community effort.
Investigations into the case continue, and Detroit police urge the community to come forward with any information that may shed light on this tragedy. Details can be anonymously submitted through Crime Stoppers for those looking to assist in the ongoing inquiry into the untimely death of London Thomas.
