Detroit residents can expect a mixed bag of weather conditions this week, with pleasant, sunny days interrupted by periods of rain and potential thunderstorms. According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, today's weather will be "mostly sunny, with a high near 59" and a light east wind of around 5 to 7 mph.
However, as the night progresses, the chance of rain intensifies, particularly after 2 am. The skies will become increasingly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to a low of around 47 degrees. The east wind will persist, slightly increasing to 6 to 8 mph, with a 60% chance of precipitation. "New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible," states the National Weather Service forecast. Residents should expect a wet commute Thursday morning.
Thursday's weather will be more active, bringing rain and the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon hours, with the rain transitioning back later in the day. With a high near 73 degrees and wind shifts from east southeast to south, it's a classic spring day for the Motor City. Gusts could reach as high as 22 mph, and with a 90% chance of rain, forecasters expect new rainfall amounts to total between a quarter and half of an inch.
Into Thursday night, the wet weather persists, as the National Weather Service update indicates: "Rain before 8pm, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm between 8pm and 2am." It will be slightly warmer at night, with a low of around 55 degrees, and those gusts can reach as high as 21 mph. The likelihood of precipitation remains high at 80%, with additional rainfall amounts mirroring those of the daytime.
The latter part of the week will offer a break in the showers, with a chance of rain before 8 a.m. on Friday. The skies will remain mostly cloudy, with a high near 67 degrees, and the west wind will be steady, gusting up to 20 mph. The forecast for the weekend improves with partly sunny conditions Saturday and full sunshine by Sunday, reaching highs near the 70-degree mark.
