Mark your calendars, Douglas County denizens and sports enthusiasts. If you've been out of the loop, here's your chance to get the lowdown on Zebulon, the upcoming regional sports complex that's been on the drawing board since your votes came in. On April 14, you can grill your Board of County Commissioners about Zebulon and the other green space projects you've been clamoring for. This will all go down at the Live Town Hall, which is poised to be as much of a community gathering as it is an info session, as reported by Douglas County.
Before the main event kicks off, starting at 5 p.m., you can mingle with park aficionados and local experts to chew over major parks projects. While the meeting is set at 100 Third St. in Castle Rock, the following hour will be open for those who'd rather dial in or click through to join the conversation; either way, this is your shot to make your voice heard. The county wasn't just talking to talk when they surveyed the lot of you last year, and now it's time to walk the walk with the results guiding these civic improvements.
Commissioner Abe Laydon had quite the spiel about the community's input shaping the vision for Zebulon, as outlined by Douglas County. He describes a process from 2024 that painted "a vision emerged in 2024 following a transparent and accountable public participation process, including live town halls, recommendations from citizen-led parks and open space volunteer boards, as well as a robust public survey with historic levels of participation." This isn't just another park but a whole sports village complete with botanical gardens and water amenities to make a splash in the county.
