The incident, which occurred near downtown Los Angeles, involved three vehicles and prompted the closure of a major freeway artery, causing significant disruptions to morning traffic.
The crash took place around 5:25 a.m. on the westbound span near Central Avenue, with early reports from the California Highway Patrol detailing the collision between a white pickup truck and a dark-colored sedan, as CBS Los Angeles and FOX LA reported. The freeway saw significant lane closures, and traffic was directed by CHP to navigate the chaos the incident left in its wake, and the shutdown persisted until around 9:00 a.m., when all lanes finally reopened.
There were a total of four people transported to local hospitals, one of whom was critically injured, though the conditions of the others remain unconfirmed, according to information from law enforcement agencies.
